The U.S. Fish & Wildlife National Conservation Training Center is a sixteen building campus situated on a 500 acre lot along the bank of The Potomac River near Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The campus, built in 1997, consists of classrooms, dormitories, laboratories and a dining hall and includes many green features including passive solar design, super insulation, and finish materials promoting superior indoor air quality as part of its original design. GreenShape is currently working with the Center’s staff to complete a sustainability assessment using the LEED for Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance rating system to ensure ongoing organizational practices at the Center are keeping with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s mission of conservation and education. The team is considering pursuit of LEED certification for individual buildings on the campus.
